Iowa Total Care is committed to protecting the security and confidentiality of our members’ information. We became aware of an incident on April 29, 2020. The incident occurred on April 23, 2020, when an employee submitted claims data within excel file(s) to a large provider organization that included claims data for members not receiving care from that provider organization. The information potentially compromised includes Name, Medicaid ID Number, Date of Birth, Procedure Codes and Diagnosis Codes.

Iowa Total Care investigated the incident. The large provider organization who received the file, acknowledged that they deleted the incorrect file and that none of the information was shared or copied. Additionally, the employee was immediately educated, and we have put safeguards in place to help prevent a similar incident from recurring in the future.

Iowa Total Care has no reason to believe any member’s information has been accessed or used improperly. However, impacted members, or their authorized representatives, were sent notifications in the mail if addresses were on file. We recommend that you review your explanation of benefits (EOB) which you receive from us as your health insurer. If you see services that you did not receive, please contact us immediately.
